Government at all levels have been charged to make the provision of basic amenities in communities across the Country a high priority.

The Chairman, Central Planning Committee, CPC, of the twentieth anniversary of the Olukiri of Kiri Kingdom, Professor Olu Obafemi made the call in Akutupa Kiri, Kabba Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Professor Obafemi said the call became imperative in view of the lack of infrastructural facilities in most communities in States across the nation.

According to him, the twentieth anniversary of the reign of the Olukiri was to rekindle the Unity of purpose and oneness of the Kiri Kingdom.

He disclosed that in a bid to support the community efforts at providing some amenities in Kiri Kingdom, the Planning Committee would embark on some post anniversary developmental projects which include installation of twenty pieces of sixty watts solar panels in different houses in the entire Kiri towns.

Professor Obafemi also appealed to Governor Bello to elevate the stool of Olukiri to a first class status.

Guest lecturer at the occasion,Doctor Ayodele Oni, who spoke on the “Significance of the Olukiri Stool and Legacies”, said the Olukiri occupies the dual position of awesomeness and love as well as the leader of the council and paramount ruler of all Kiri speaking ethnic group.

In a message to the occasion, Governor Yahaya Bello assured of government continued partnership with communities in the State towards infrastructural development.

Represented by the State Security Adviser. Retired Commander Jerry Omodara, Governor Bello also restated his administration’s commitment to the fight against crimes and criminality to make Kogi State safer for all residents.

Speaking in an interview, the Olukiri of Kiri Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Oba Olu Jem Kiri, expressed appreciation to God for the past twenty years of his reign, his high Chiefs and called on the government to speed up the ongoing road construction in the area.

Highlights of the occasion was the award of chieftaincy and honorary titles to indigenes of the land and non indigenes who assisted the area in its developmental strides including Mr. Femi Mokikan as the Chief Asoju of Kiri Kingdom and the State Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja as the Soludero of Kiri land among others.

Responding on behalf of awards given to non indigenes, a Professor of Theatre Arts in the University of Ilorin, Professor, Sunday Ododo promised their continued assistance to Kiri Kingdom.
