The House of Representatives, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to decentralise the continuous voter’s registration across the country.
The resolution was passed sequel to the adoption of a motion sponsored by the Chairman, House Committee on Information, National Orientation, Ethics and Values, Mr Olusegun Odebunmi at plenary.
The lawmaker noted that INEC is technically mandating Nigerians to appear at their offices to get registered causing gatherings which put Nigerians at risk of contracting the coronavirus.
According to him, this has resulted in discouraging prospective voters.
Adopting the motion, the House mandated INEC to take registration closer to the people.
The House also mandated the House Committee on Electoral Matters to ensure compliance.
