Kogi State Chairman of the Academic Staff of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, Comrade Ranti Matthew Ojo has described the outgoing year as very challenging for the teaching profession.

Comrade Ranti stated this while speaking on the challenges confronting Secondary Education in the State.

He said Secondary School Tutors performed excellently well which was reflected in the WAEC results in public schools across the State. The Chairman who also doubles as the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Chairman said for optimum performance and output next year, Teachers should be given more attention in terms of thier welfare and emoluments, implementation of thier promotion arrears, leave bonuses, more infrastructural facilities at schools and employment of more teachers to replace those who retired in the outgoing year.

According to him, the present administration has performed moderately in terms of payment of salaries and restructuring carried out by STETSCOM as well as some measures put in by the Ministry of Education but more needs to be done to take secondary education to the next level.

Comrade Ranti said the Union will continue to dialogue and negotiate with Government towards a better welfare package for Teachers in Kogi State.

The ASUSS Boss who used the occasion to condoled with the family of a legend former Union leader, Comrade AD Ganiyu who passed away prayed God to grant the family, Kabour Union and the State the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
