Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has arrested Fifty-eight year old Mrs Modupe Bello, in Bacita, Edu local government area of the State for alleged involvement in human trafficking and child labour.
Confirming the incident to newsmen in Ilorin, NSCDC spokesman in the State, Babawale Afolabi, said three children were recovered from the woman during a raid carried out at her residence in Bacita.
According to Babawale, the raid was launched after one Oluwafemi Agbaje reported at the Bacita Divisional Office of the Corps that his eighteen year old daughter was missing since January 18, 2022.
He explained that parents of the missing teenager suspected Modupe Bello as she had met them few days earlier, begging for the release the girl to her.
During the exercise, three children were recovered, while some photographs believed to be of other children she had trafficked, were also recovered.
During interrogation, the accused admitted to being in the business of trafficking children to be engaged as housemaids and for other strenuous labours.
She however, denied knowing the whereabouts of the eighteen year old girl.
Meanwhile, Kwara State Commandant of NSCDC, Iskil Makinde has ordered that the matter be transfered to the Antihuman Trafficking and Illegal Migration Unit of the Corps for proper investigations and further action.
