Lagos State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 9 Ghanaians for smuggling about 201 bags of Indian hemp, worth ₦200 million, into the country.

Also arrested were 6 nationals of the Republic of Benin who were alleged to have attempted smuggling 102 drums of 250 liters suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) from Nigeria to Benin Republic.

3 others; Abdul Ramah, Shina Taiwo and Sunday Amon who specialised in vandalising armoured cables in Ikeja, Lagos for over 2 years were also arrested.

NSCDC Commandant, Okoro Eweka in a media briefing, said the suspects smuggled the goods through the Nigeria shore with the aid of their Nigerian collaborators.

Mr Eweka who disclosed that the operation was intelligence driven, with the support of the Nigerian Navy followed an Intel for 2 weeks and the suspects who were all fishermen had already loaded the ship and set for smuggling.

The Commandant Okoro Eweka said the 9 suspects from Ghana who were caught with Indian hemp had been handed over to the NDLEA while others would be charged to court.
