The Minister for Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen has reacted to another ugly case of domestic violence which happened in Jo’s south local government area of Plateau state.

In a press statement, Dame Tallen described as worrisome the extent of man’s inhumanity against their fellow human stressing that it is condemnable and unacceptable.

The case involving a 32-year-old Samuel Matthew of Anguldi In Jo’s south Local government happened on the 18th of April when the perpetrator who is the husband of Mercy Samuel mutilated his wife by tearing open her stomach with a knife.

Even with the timely intervention of neighbours who hurriedly intercept the fight and rushed Mercy to Bingham University Teaching Hospital, the victim died shortly after surgery was conducted on her.

While appreciating the swift joint action by neighbours, family and the police in handling the situation, the Minister called for the immediate arrest of the perpetrator to ensure justice is served and to stem a repeat of such gruesome development.

She equally called relevant Organisations in the state such as the Ministry for Women Affairs and the Association of Social workers in the state to come to the aid of the victim’s children through psychosocial counseling to combat the effect of trauma resulting from the incident.

Dame Tallen urged the Plateau State government and indeed the Bukuru Police Division, FIDA, and the Association of Women Journalists to properly handle the case and ensure they expose all forms of domestic violence in the society for greater enlightenment so the public will collectively stand up against such acts.
