The National Security Council says it has discovered the footprints of the Islamic State of West Province, ISWAP, in the recent dastardly attack on worshippers at the Saint Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

Briefing newsmen after its meeting in Abuja, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, said the attack had nothing to do with ethnicity or religion.

He expressed unhappiness about the attack on Northerners residing in the town shortly after the church attack.

Aregbesola called on Nigerians to desist from attacking members of other ethnic minority groups where terrorist attacks had occurred.

The Minister said the perpetrators of the church attack were being trailed, assuring they would be apprehended and prosecuted.

On the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in Ekiti and Osun, the Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali, said over 17 thousand personnel would be deployed to ensure hitch-free exercises.

He also said criminal activities had been weakened due to the dynamism in the operations being undertaken.

On the kidnapped victims of the Abuja-Kaduna train attack, the Inspector General of Police said some of them had gained freedom, while efforts were on to rescue the rest unhurt.

He also said arrest was yet to be made of the kidnappers of the recently released Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Samuel Kanu-Uche, assuring however that his kidnappers will eventually be arrested and brought to book.
