The House of Representatives has reversed its judgment on three of the Gender clauses that it had voted against during the consideration of 68 recommendations for the Constitutional Amendment.

The bills are the Indigenous Peoples Act, the Citizenship Act, and the 35% Political Party Leadership Position for Women.

Following a brief executive session on Tuesday, the Speaker, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, announced the decision in plenary.

He stated that the decision was made for the greater interest of the country, specifically for the commemoration of the 2022 International Women’s Day.

Mr Gbajabiamila, who stated that the legislation will be voted on again in the next four weeks, further stated that if there is a disagreement in the decisions made by the House and the Senate, there will be Harmonization on the bills.

He did emphasize, however, that while Harmonization may not be the practice during Constitutional Amendment, Section 5 of the Constitution permits the Parliament to regulate itself.
