Recently, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello embarked on inspection tour of projects across the three Senatorial Districts of the state.

It is a truism that one of the fundamentals of good governance and effective leadership is the ability to bequeath lasting legacies.

This is why Successive administrations in Kogi State and indeed Nigeria have executed various people oriented projects for the overall well being of the people.

On assumption of office therefore, Governor Yahaya Bello had promised to ensure good governance, hence the blue print of the government which was produced under the headship of late Professor Francis Suleimanu Idachaba, the Professor emeritus.

The New Direction Government under Governor Yahaya Bello subsequently initiated and embarked on laudable programmes and policies.

While some of the projects have been completed, many others are close to completion.

For the avoidance of doubt, there are about fifty-one verifiable projects so far executed by the present administration with over forty completed while the rest are at various stages of completion.

Indeed, the projects executed cut across health, education, rural development and road construction as well as electricity.

It is worthy of note that these projects were not concentrated in the State capital, Lokoja alone or restricted to just a part of the State.

In line with the Government’s principle of equity and fairness, the projects were evenly distributed in the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

Some of the projects inspected by the Governor include the State Specialist Hospital Lokoja, GYB Model Science Secondary School Adankolo, Ganaja junction flyover, River Embankment at Kpata and the Muhammadu Buhari Square, all in Lokoja.

He inspected the Reference Hospital, Okene, the remodelled and reconstructed official palace of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, Agassa and Ozuri erosion control, Enyinare-Ahache road, Total-Agassa-Upogoro hospital-checkpoint road, Okene water reticulation, Ahogede-Okene-Ebe-Agassa road among other projects in the Central Senatorial District.

In the Eastern flank, the Governor flagged off the rehabilitation of the Lokoja-Shintaku-Dekina-Anyigba road, he was at the Idah General Hospital, University Teaching Hospital Anyigba, remodelled and reconstructed Ajiolo Community Secondary School Ajiolo Ojaji, Ogane-Aji gully erosion control site, Anyigba, Ejule-Umomi-Ugwolawo-Ajaka-Idah road, Inele-Ikaa-Adum-Ogugu road as well as the Obana-Okpo-Ikeje- Ogugu- Ette roads.

The township roads in Kabba inspected include the Iyah-Fadile junction road, Dada-Onicar Bestway-NTA junction, Inuraje road, Ogo Oluwa street, Surulere road, Obaro Odo-Afin road, Ipele street-Saint Barnabas roundabout road and Bolorunduro road among others.

The Governor, who inspected these projects over a period of seven days, was obviously impressed with the quality of work done at the various project sites and praised the contractors for a job well done.

He also emphasized the need for Government to employ indigenous contractors who are capable of delivering quality projects within record time.

The Governor pointed out that the motivation behind these project was the desire of his administration to leave Kogi State better than he met it with worthy, life changing projects for the benefit of the masses.

In the course of these visits, GYB ensured he visited the traditional rulers of the various districts, not only to pay homage but intimate them on the quest for collaboration to make governance a collective project.

This act shows that the present leadership in the state has high regards for the traditional institution and accord it the necessary respect and attention it deserved.

The execution of these numerous projects across the State will in no small measure, affect the lives of the people positively and boost the socio-economic activities in the rural areas.

It is also an open door for job opportunities for the teeming unemployed youths who are professionals in different fields and even those in unskilled labor.

As Government provides these basic facilities, responsibility has now been placed on the shoulder of the populace to ensure that these facilities are protected against vandals towards justifying the purposes intended.

It is also hoped that subsequent administrations will build on this achievements and execute more projects with direct bearing on the lives of the people with a view to leaving behind lasting legacies for generations yet unborn.

It is therefore suggestive that all projects initiated by past administration be completed since Government is a Continuum, thereby reducing wastages through abandonment of projects.

As the New Direction Government of Yahaya Bello gradually winds down, it is pertinent to note that the slogan of ‘Let’s do more’ has been achieved to a substantial level with physical evidences in virtually all sectors of the State economy.

With the harvest of projects by the GYB Administration, it is hoped that the people will continue to support the administration to enable it meet the yearning and aspirations of the people of Kogi state.
