Comrade Omaji Commends Judiciary As ASUSS Thrashes NUT in Court Again. Urges Members to Get Thier PVC.

The recent judgement by the Enugu Division of the Industrial Court in favour of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools, ASUSS, has been adjudged as another victory for freedom of Association in the country.

National President of ASUSS, Comrade Samuel Omaji stated this while speaking on the case decided in Court between the Union and the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT in Enugu State.

Comrade Omaji said the right to free association has once again been rekindled by the Court which he described as a good omen for the nation’s nascent democracy.

According to him, ASUSS will continue in its quest to fight for the rights of it’s members and make secondary school education better in the country.

He expressed appreciation to President Muhamadu Buhari for recently approving a new salary structure and retirement age for teachers as well as some benefits to encourage teachers in the country and the National Assembly for it’s plan to review laws to make teaching more productive.

He urged States that are yet to effect the new salary structure and retirement age to do so to enhance teaching and learning for a greater nation.

On the forthcoming general elections, Comrade Omaji called on its members not to be deterred by some development in the political scene, but obtain thier Personal Voter Cards, PVCs, to exercise thier constitutional duties during the elections to elect candidates of thier choice.
