The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of Chrisland School, which is now being accused of rape.
A mother alleged that her 10-year-old daughter was raped while on a school trip to Dubai for the World School Games, which were held between March 10 and 13, 2022.
The mother stated in a viral video that the video of the rape had been circulated on social media networks.
The State Government cautioned on Monday in a statement from the office of the quality assurance unit of the education ministry that distributing such material amounted to child pornography.
“We also use this medium to remind the general public of the implications pertaining to engaging in any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a child committing an offense…. [They are] liable to a custodial sentence of fourteen (14) years. This includes producing, distributing, receiving, or possessing an image of child pornography.
The Chrisland School has been closed indefinitely awaiting further inquiry, the statement said.
Past offences
Mercy Johnson, a Nollywood actress, said her 8-year-old daughter was bullied by a teacher at Chrisland School in October 2021.
Adegboyega Adenekan, the school’s former supervisor, was also accused of sexually abusing a student who was less than 3 years old at the time of the assault in 2016.
The Sexual Offences Court convicted and sentenced Adenekan to 60 years in jail in 2019.
