Kogi State Acting Chief Judge Justice Josiah Joe Majebi has inaugurated a Revenue Task Force,RTF, to uncover alleged fraud in the State judiciary.

Justice Majebi who inaugurated the RTF at the judiciary headquarters in Lokoja charged members to work diligently to unravel cases of alleged fraud and revenue leakages in the the judiciary.

According to him, the development was also aimed at sanitizing perceived revenue cases following a report submitted by the Head of Directorate of Revenue Services Department, Mr. Sunday Paul.

The Acting CJ said the report based on the routine check by the Director in charge of the newly created department discovered a syndicated mechanism whereby payments to Courts by Legal Chambers, thier practitioners and other individuals were manipulated with customized bank tellers and stamps to defraud the Court procedure.

The Director, Mr. Sunday Paul had alleged in his report dated 9th of November, 2022 and captioned ;”Fraudulent Practice” in which he disclosed amongst other findings that in his monthly reconciliation of accounts, the sum of N2.4m said to have been paid into the Court’s account was not paid despite evidence of payment showing same.

Mr. Paul in his report said when he contacted the bank, other similar unremitted transactions were also discovered.

The Committee was given two months to complete the assignment as the case the Acting CJ disclosed has been reported to the Police for thorough investigation.

Other members of the Committee are; Olorunshola Oloruntoba. Esq, of the Directorate of Litigation, Olufunke Oga. Esq, of the Directorate of Area Courts, and Maliki Adeku. Esq, of the Directorate of Personnel Management while John Friday Egwu of the Directorate of Finance and Supplies will serve as Secretary.
