There is fresh drama in Kogi West as Senator Sunday Steve Karimi has called out the Chairman of Kabba/Bunnu Local Government, Barrister Bacchaeus Dare Micheal, accusing him of holding on to transformers meant for the people for the past eight months.

In a letter dated October 21, 2025, the Senator, who also chairs the Senate Services Committee, said he was surprised that the two transformers, a 500kva and a 300kva, he provided for communities in Kabba and Bunnu earlier in the year are still in the custody of the council chairman.

According to Karimi, the transformers were handed over through a contractor, Messrs New Moon Nigeria Limited, since February 2025 but have yet to be distributed to the benefiting communities.

“These transformers are for the benefit of the people of Kabba and Bunnu, not for your personal use,” the Senator warned. “You are therefore directed to release the brand new transformers to the beneficiary communities within the next one week, otherwise I will be forced to take legal steps to recover them.”

However, political watchers believe this latest move by Senator Karimi might be a direct response to the recent public attack on him by the same local government chairman.

The tension between both men started after Senator Karimi criticised the endorsement rally organised by the Kogi State Government and the APC, describing it as unnecessary and accusing the organisers of “bullying Kogi people by bringing them out in the sun to endorse President Tinubu.”

In reaction, Barrister Bacchaeus Dare Micheal, speaking on behalf of all local government chairmen in Kogi West, labelled Senator Karimi an ingrate for making such remarks against the rally.

This latest exchange has deepened the political rift in Kogi West, with supporters of both men trading words over who truly represents the interests of the people.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kabba/Bunnu Local Government Chairman, Barrister Bacchaeus Dare Micheal, has not made any new public statement in response to the Senator’s letter.
