The Organized Labour in Kogi State have called on the Government for immediate implementation of cash backing of all promotions, payment of leave bonuses and annual incremental to Civil Servants as contained in the agreement signed by the Government with Labour.

This was contained in an address of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC read by Comrade Ranti Matthew Ojo in Lokoja.

Comrade Ojo said the call became imperative in view of the hardship on Civil Servants in the State occasioned by economic predicament prevailing in the country.

The TUC State Chairman said myriad of challenges bedeviling workers in Kogi State have incapacitated them in performance of thier job optimally as the Schools are bereft of teachers due retirement and non recruitment/replacement for over five years.

According to him the Organized Labour also appealed to the Government to put an end to percentage payment of salary especially at the Local Government levels, domesticate the recently” Harmonized Retirement Age for Teachers Act, 2022″, in both primary and secondary schools, lifting the ban on Union activities in State owned tertiary owned institutions and payment of gratuities and harmonization of pension among other requests seeking for urgent attention.

The Organized Labour while appreciating the State Government for it’s efforts in the Security Sector reiterated the commitment of workers to duties for maximum performance.

In his remark, Governor Yahaya Bello in a message to the occasion assured of the determination of his administration to give priority attention to the welfare of workers to reduce thier suffering occasioned by the economic downturn.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade, the Governor said part of the measures to be implemented is the resuscitation of Car Refurbishing Loans to workers and partnership on Secretariat projects embarked upon by the Labour Unions.

He commended workers and the Union Leaders for thier maturity, sacrifices and patience so far promising to continue to provide good governance in Kogi State through embarking on viable projects for the overall interest of the people.

The Governor called for a sustained support of the workers to his political ambition expressing optimism in his ability to perform well in a higher level.

Goodwill messages were received from the State Controller of the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Mrs O. O Olugbami and others.
