The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, has tendered his resignation from office following allegations of certificate forgery.

‎A statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation.

‎According to the statement, the former Minister conveyed his decision in a letter to the President, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve the country.

Mr. Nnaji noted that his resignation was in response to what he described as persistent political attacks and blackmail targeted at him by his opponents.

‎“President Tinubu accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, following some allegations against him.

He thanked the former Minister for his contributions to national development and wished him success in his future endeavours,” Mr. Onanuga said.

‎It will be recalled that Geoffrey Nnaji was appointed Minister in August 2023 and has been at the centre of controversy since reports emerged alleging that some of the academic certificates he presented for screening were forged.

‎The Presidency has not yet announced who will oversee the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology in an acting capacity pending the appointment of a substantive replacement.
