A committee has been inaugurated by Governor Yahaya Bello to oversee the establishment of another state-owned university to be sited in the Western senatorial district of Kogi State.
The committee, comprising 17 professors and some state government officials has Professor Olu Obafemi as the Chairman and Professor Hadiza Aguye as the Secretary.
Among terms of reference for the committee are determining the type of university to be established, preparation of necessary academic briefs, university law, and university master plan which is to be presented to the National Universities Commission, NUC for recognition and approval.
The Committee is also to identify realistic and sustainable funding sources for smooth running of the third state owned university.
Inaugurating the Committee at the Kogi state Government Lodge, Abuja, Governor Bello gave a six week time frame for the submission of its reports.
The Governor expressed commitment towards expanding educational opportunities including quality higher education for people of Kogi State.
In a remark, Chairman of the Committee, Professor Olu Obafemi emphasized the committee’s commitment to diligently fulfill the vision of the governor and the people of Okunland.
Professor Obafemi applauded Governor Bello’s dedication to equality, fairness, and inclusive governance stressing that the
University in Okunland by Bello’s administration would be an enduring legacy for generations.
It could be recalled that the Bello administration established the Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara in addition to the Kogi State University, Anyigba now renamed Prince Abubakar Audu University.
