The need for peace building as panacea to the stability of the country in pre and post election period has been stressed.

Project Officer, the Kukah Centre, Lawson Eselebor stated this in Lokoja at the opening of a two day capacity training for selected stakeholders from North Central and South West Independent State Based Peace Architecture organized the centre and funded through the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office.

Mr Eselebor said the essence of the Train the Trainers workshop centers majorly on promoting peace in the Nation’s democracy through stakeholders engagement.

He said lack of right application of conflict resolutions to bring lasting peace is the cause of violence, destruction and killings as an aftermath hence the need for a proactive measure through the training especially in post election violence.

One of the lead presenter at the occasion, Barrister Gloria Ballason said for peace to thrive in the society or home, the issue of justice, truth and accountability must be given utmost priority.

Ballason said the need for Nigeria’s electoral body to take full responsibility and be accountable for the process cannot be overemphasized to win the trust of Nigerians.

Some of the participants, Alhaji Salaudeen Omopariola Aliu from Kogi State and Ronke Adegoke from Kwara State promised to use the training for the purpose of peace building as well as train other to toe the path of peace.

It’s expected that resolutions reached at the end of the training nationwide will be forwarded to the National Peace Committe for implementation.

The Participants drawn from Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Benue and Oyo states are expected to be trained on effective tools for conflict management in the country.

According to him, fifty participants from religious bodies, traditional institution, CSOs, NGOs, INEC, youth led groups, women led organizations and independent State based Peace Architecture, ISPA, are being engaged in the exercise to achieve set goals.
