Government at all levels have been called upon to give priority attention to mechanised farming as part of the way out to the present economic challenges.

Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Gabriel Amari stated this in an interview in Lokoja.

Comrade Amari said mechanised agriculture backed with Government proactiveness in resolving security challenges of incessant farmers/herders clashes as well as banditry will go a long in bringing about food sufficiency in the country.

According to him, Nigeria must move from a consuming nation to a productive one thereby enhancing our export capacity to strengthen the power of the naira.

The State NLC Boss said the sudden removal of fuel subsidy without commensurate provision of the promised palliatives also contributed to the present pains being experienced by the people.

He called for enhancement in workers and pensioners wages and emonulnents to meet up with the current market realities thereby boosting their purchasing power and the urgent need to make Community Policing more result oriented

On the proposed minimum wage and strike, Comrade Amari said Organised Labour decision is in the interest of the general public as Government has failed to meet up it’s promises and obligations to Nigerian public.

The Labour leader urged Kogi State Governor Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo to look into the payment of wage award to workers like his counterparts in the North Central States as well as provide intra city buses to ease their transportation to work.

While calling on workers to keep hope alive, and support the new administration in Kogi State said the State Council of the NLC will not fail in its constitutional mandate of fighting for a better living condition for the workforce.
