The Kogi State Police Command has debunked media reports of a bomb explosion in Lokoja on Tuesday.
The Commissioner of Police in Kogi State Edward Egbuka, while briefing journalists described the purported bomb explosion as reported in the media as hoax.
According to him, when the command was informed of the development, he quickly deployed his men at the bomb disposal unit to the area to ascertain the truth of the matter.
He told journalists that the bomb disposal unit of the Command confirmed that it was a hoax.
The Police Commissioner advised Journalists to always confirm crime related report at their disposal with the police before publication to avoid creating panic in the minds of the people.
According to a media report,an explosion was heard around the office of the Secretary to the State Government at about 8 30 a.m on Tuesday.
The Police report contradicted it’s earlier stand that it’s Anti Bomb Unit attention was called to an object suspected to be IEDs which was eventually detonated by it’s men that attracted attention.
