Mr. John Ojochenemi Amabi, Executive Director, Foundation for Enhancement and Promotion of Family Life, has described divorce as the major cause of social vices in the society, appealed to the Kogi State House of Assembly to quickly pass the Kogi Matrimonial Law and Child Right Supportive Bill currently at it second reading for peace and increased revenue generation in the State.

The Executive Director, Foundation for Enhancement and Promotion of Family Life, Mr. John ,Ojochenemi Amabi made the disclosure, at a media roundtable in collaboration with FEPFL Marriage and Career Academy in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Kogi State Council for the media to review the bill for Kogi Matrimonial Law and Child Right Supportive Bill.

He explained that with the Kogi Matrimonial Law and Child Right Supportive Bill if passed into law, said each local government area of Kogi State has the capacity to benefit an accumulation revenue generation per annum amount amounting to N131,125,000 in processing marriage and another N203, 210, 000 to Marriage crisis from registered marriage registry’s.

The media roundtable was held at the NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja with the Kogi Matrimonial Law and Child Right Supportive Bill, presently at the second reading.

He lamented that divorce certificate remains the easiest certificate to get in the society now with broken down homes and marriages, described the bill currently on the floor of the Assembly as one when passed will be a win win situation for the family, the society and in revenue generation.

The Executive Director explained that when marriages are rightly processed there will be peace and security in the society, said it will in the long run create jobs for CSO and reduce spending on insecurity by government.

Mr. John Amabi maintained that
marriage processing errors has equally added to the increasing crime and violence rate in the society due to lack of uniformity in marriage processing, call for a separate institution where people would be groomed on the knowledge of what to expect in marriages and to discourage divorce.

The Executive Director lamented that marriage process is targeted at revenue and not knowledge driven, pointing out that for a life time journey, people should go through process that would educate them on the dos and dont as well as what to expect in marriages to be able to withstand shocks.

While disclosing that marriage remains the foundation of community peace, said where the LGAs have attempted process to achieve peace and to effect reconciliation in the failed marriage, urged for other forms of interventions before hurriedly seeking divorce.

The Executive Director also hinged the failure of marriages to not having one standard for all registry’s in processing couple marriages, lamented the lack of data base, uniformity and child welfare plans before divorce is granted.

On the strategy for peace and revenue, he said the urge for food, sex constitutes 95% of the human earning, said the two major urge, directly or indirectly when rightly harnessed would create peace in a peaceful marriage and improve revenue, urged the Kogi State House of Assembly to look into the merit of the bill.

He explained that matrimonial revenue generating should be based on service delivery through processing and service, called for facility mapping through mapping interest form, facility registration, referral form and renewing registration annually by marriage registry.

Mr. Amabi disclosed that the vision of having a world of total liberty remains the passion that propelled the Foundation for enhancement and promotion of family life to move for the Kogi Matrimonial Law and Child Right Supportive Bill.

He added too that the Foundation for enhancement and promotion of family life is also into thematic areas like Health, Education, climate change, Good Governance, justice and strong institution, equally award conventional certificate and diploma certificate, said it efforts led to the moving of Marriage registry to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, and has thus far trained 183 teachers on marriage counselling in Lokoja.

In his remarks, the Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, Comrade Adeiza Momohjimoh, described the Kogi Matrimonial Law and Child Right Supportive Bill as apt, also called on the Assembly to pass the bill in the interest of the society.
