Kogi State Government has arrested a woman, Elizabeth Abu for maltreating her step son.

The State Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development Hajia Fatima Buba who disclosed this in Lokoja said the arrested woman has been charged to Court for child abuse.

Hajia Buba said the Ministry swung into action when her attention was drawn to it by the Executive Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello of the inhuman act of the woman.

On interrogation by the Commissioner and her team, the woman, Elizabeth Abu, married to Ewongolu Emmanuel church confessed to the crime stressing that she did not intend to inflict such pain on the boy.

The boy David Matthew Ewongolu in an interview said he sustained the injury on his buttock from a whipping he got from his stepmother for using part of his cloth to make duster, saying it looks like it was burnt with a hot electric iron.

Reacting to the development, Hajia Buba expressed sadness over the incident saying the Ministry’s legal team is collaborating with the Police to ensure that justice is done in the matter.

According to her, the boy is receiving medical attention at the Specialist Hospital, Lokoja.

Speaking on the matter, the Secretary to the Government of Kogi State, Doctor Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade assured of justice for the boy stressing that Governor Yahaya Bello administration has zero tolerance for child abuse under any guise and forms.
