Kogi State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, says it will partner with the National Population Commission, NPC, to achieve set goals in the State.

The State Comptroller of Immigration, Nkechi Chinaka stated when she received in audience the Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission, Hon. Engr Yori Afolabi and his team in the Command headquarters, Lokoja.

Chinaka said the NPC is a critical stakeholder with the Commission in the quest to fulfil Federal Government’s mandate for the Commission as well as improve service delivery.

The Comptroller requested the assignment of a desk officer to handle the issuance of Births, Deaths, and Attestation Certificate from the NPC from the Hon. Federal Commissioner which was granted for smooth administration between the two Agencies.

Earlier, the Honourable Federal Commissioner, NPC, Kogi State Engr Yori Afolabi said the visit was meant to look at the area of partnership between the two Federal Government Agencies to achieve set goals.

Engr. Afolabi outlined some of the core mandates of the Commission to include: conducting population and housing census, vital registration of births, deaths, attestation, analyzing and disseminating population data for development planning.

Others he noted are undertaking population research and producing projections, providing Geographic Information System (GIS) and mapping services, conducting surveys to supplement census data, and developing policies for population management and planning for social, economic, and sustainable development.

The Honourable Federal Commissioner emphasized the importance of collaboration between the two Agencies and proposed a strategic partnership to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of passport issuance processes.

The courtesy visit concluded with mutual assurances of cooperation and commitment to exploring synergies between the National Population Commission and the Nigeria Immigration Service in Kogi State expected to enhance operational efficiency and contribute to the development goals of the state and the nation at large.
