Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has called on the State Government to urgently put measures in place to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal on the people.

State Chairman of the Council, Comrade Gabriel Amari made the call while speaking on the current hardship being faced by the people, especially workers in Kogi State occasioned by the recent hike in fuel pump price.

Comrade Amari said that while the Federal Government is working out its palliatives for the people, there was need for the state Government to equally set in motion measures to assist the populace to reduce the hardship being faced by the development.

According to the NLC Boss, other states across the Country have started initiating several measures to reduce the effects of the subsidy removal on the people, saying such measure should be emulated by the state government.

He appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello to act fast as all sectors of the economy have been virtually paralyzed

Comrade Amari maintained that if nothing was done, it would be difficult for workers to improve productivity as a result of high cost of transportation, feeding and goods generally.

The Labour leader opined that the present development has never been the dream of the people of Kogi State and Nigerians at large.

He urged Governor Yahaya Bello, whom he described as a labour friendly Governor, to do something speedily before the situation gets out of hand.

Comrade Amari however, assured that the leadership of the NLC in Nigeria would not rest in its bid to realize the agreement reached with the Federal Government on the measures to alleviate the sufferings of the masses occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy.

He called on workers to be patient while issues are being addressed to alleviate their suffering caused by recent development.
