Kogi State Chief, Justice Josiah Joe Majebi has ordered an immediate investigation into a mental state of an inmate, Mustapha Shaibu at the Okene Medium Correctional Center.

Justice Majebi gave the order while reviewing the cases of 27 inmates at the Center.

He directed the State Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Badama Kadiri to write for an approval to his office to conduct a test on Mustapha Shaibu to ascertain his true health status..

According to the CJ, the directive became imperative in view of the need to take drastic decision on the case of the inmate who has murdered family members who could have taken care of him.

The inmate who was alleged to have killed his parents and a nurse taking care of him was arrested and charged for murder before Obangede Magistrate Court.

The Chief Judge earlier charged Magistrates to treat cases based on merit and avoid unnecessary delay of cases pending before them.

Speaking on the inmate behavior, Senior Magistrate Aisha Audu told the Chief Judge that the suspect constitute a threat to everyone during proceeding on his case in Court, threatening to even deal with the judge who ordered him to be remanded in Correctional Center.

Earlier in his address, the Officer in charge of Okene Medium Correctional Center, Assistant Controller of Corrections, Ogadu Audu had appealed to the Chief Judge to look into the cases of inmates with mental challenges.

The Chief Judge also visited Kabba Correctional Center for review of cases as well.
