The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has appealed to the management of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to use its land and floating mega stations nationwide to service election duty vehicles and boats.

INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu who made this appeal in Abuja when he led a delegation to the NNPC Towers also suggested that a special arrangement be made with other marketers in locations where NNPC may not have dedicated stations for seamless operations on Election days.

Professor Yakubu said the Commission would need about one hundred thousand vehicles and about four thousand boats for the deployment of personnel and materials to 176,846 polling units spread across 8,809 Registration Areas(or electoral Wards) in 774 local Government Areas of the country.

 “Election is the biggest logistical operation that Nigeria undertakes every four years.  93,469,008 registered Voters are expected to elect a President, 28 State Governors and 1,462 legislators (109 Senators,360 members of House of Representatives and 993 members of State Houses of Assembly).”

Responding, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Mr Mele Kyari said they would work together with the INEC logistic team and other marketing companies to ensure  seamless supply of the Petroleum products on Election days.

Mr Mele also promised to use their floating mega stations for marine operations to the riverine areas of the country.

He also said that within one week there would be significant relief in the fuel supply as NNPC had taken extreme measures to contain the current distribution challenges.
