The National University Commission, NUC, has been charged to develop a curriculum for Nigeria Universities to reflect the current trend in developed countries.

The charge was contained in a convocation lecture delivered by a Professor of African History and Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities, University of Texas Austin, USA, Professor Toyin Falola at the 5th convocation lecture of the Federal University, Lokoja.

Speaking on the topic; “Africa and the Double Pandemic; COVID-19, Terrorism and the Future of Educay in the New Normal” said the is the need for the overhaul of Africa educational system in view of the challenges poised by the Coronavirus, Terrorism and Banditry.

According to him, the development has impacted negatively on the learning process in Africa and Nigeria in particular hence the need to adjust the system and give students the opportunity to showcase thier academic prowess in different fields within a time limit to achieve set goals.

The Professor also urged the students to acquire skills outside thier course of studies to help support their academic as well as engaged them meaningfully after graduation.

Earlier, while declaring the lecture open, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Professor, Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi described Professor Toyin Falola as a seasoned academic who has contributed immensely to the academic growth of the country, Africa and the world.
