The Minister of Education, Dr Olatunji Alausa has declared as illegal any admission outside the Central Admissions Processing System, CAPS.
He stated this in Abuja at the opening of the 2025 Policy meeting on admissions into Tertiary Institutions.
The Minister explained the CAPS was established to sanitize the admission process and any circumvention of the process would not be accepted.
He also said any institution or individual found guilty of the act would be penalized and prosecuted.
On the minimum age for entry into tertiary education, Alausa reiterated that it has been pegged on 16 to ensure the candidate was mature enough to function in such an environment.
The Minister warned that any Institution found admitting underaged candidates would be sanctioned.
Alausa urged all stakeholders to ensure the guidelines on admissions are strictly adhered to, to uphold the quality of education in the country.
