Nigerians have been charged to give the needed support to the Armed Forces to win the fight against insurgency.

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello made the call at the Armed Forces Rememberance Day celebration in Lokoja.

Governor Bello said if the needed support is given to the Armed Forces, the security challenges would soon be over and the society a better place for all to live.

He assured of his administration continued support to the Armed Forces to achieve set goals.

The Governor also urged the youths to put the country first, be patriotic in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

He also sue for peaceful coexistence among the people and cooperation with the Government as well as Security Agencies.

According to him, the youth must display a sense of patriotism so that they can be trusted with positions of authority to move the nation to a greater heights.

Governor Bello called for prayers for the families of the fallen heroes who paid the supreme price to secure the nation’s territorial integrity.

On the call for him to run for presidency in the next general election, the Governor said he would make his intention known at the right time.

In a remark, the State Security Adviser, Retired Commander Jerry Omodara said the Armed Forces Rememberance Day was set aside to remember the sacrifices of those who died in line of duty and their role in keeping Nigeria together.

Retired Commander Omodara said the unity and oneness of the country is not negotiable as the aftermath of war was unpleasant.

State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion of Ex-Servicemen, Retired Warrant Officer David Salawu advised serving officers to be diligent and disciplined in thier service to the nation.

He equally called for more attention to be paid to the welfare of widows and families of fallen heroes.

The occasion featured laying of wreath and twenty-one gunshots in honor of fallen heroes and the release of pigeons symbolizing peace in the nation.
